This museum is situated in Krikilan Village, Kalijambe, ± 3 Km from
the main road of Solo – Purwodadi, occupying an area of 16, 675 m2 with
building shaped in Traditional javanese architeture known as Joglo. The
main place of this museum is exhibition hall where the fossils
collections are kept.
•Laboratory, a conservation place for the fossils.
•Meeting Hall is mainly used for all activities in the museum
•Library is a place for keeping all book collections
•Store room is a chamber to keep the fossil collections.
There are 13. 806 pieces of fossil collections which are kept at two
different locations, the 2.931 are preserved in the exhibition Hall and
the other 10.875 are in the store room.
The collection preserved in the museum includes:
•Human Fossils: Australopithecus Africanus, Modjokertensis
Pithecanthropus, Pithecanthropus Erectus, Pithecanthropus Soloensis,
Homo Neanderthals of Europe, Asia Homo Neanderthal, and Homo Sapiens.
•Fossils of vertebrate animal (Vertebrates): Elephas Namadicus
(Elephant), Stegodon Trigonocephalus (Elephant), Mastodon sp (Elephant),
Bubalus palaeokarabau (Buffalo), Felis Palaejavanica (Tiger), Sus sp
(Pig), Rhinocerous Sondaicus (Rhino), Bovidae (Cattle, Bull), Cervus sp.
(Deer)
•Fossils of water animal: Crocodilus sp. (crocodile), fish, crab,
shark teeth, Hippopotamus sp. (Hippo), Moluska (class of Pelecypoda and
Gastropoda), Foraminifera, and Chelonia sp. (turtle).
•Stone: Rijang, Kalsedon dan Agate
•Fossil of marine plants: Diatomit
•Stone tools: Stone Tools: Flakes, Wood Chip, Wood Planing Tool, Perimbas Axes, Stone Balls, Penetak Axes.
This museum is located in the Sangiran area known as "Sangiran Dome",
this area has fossils range from primordial men with their equipment,
primordial animals or plants lived in the era. Stratigraphicaly, these
sites are the most complete prehistoric site in Asia in which
prehistoric live can be observed in a sequence without interruption
since 2 million years ago during the era of last Pliosen to the end of
middle Pleistosen.
